July Open Log
Time to shine, sparkle and become renewed.
So the fighting has finished, the filtering system is turned back on and the water has retreated. Of course, all that water rushing in and having been there for so long means that there is a giant mess in most parts of the Sphere, where water alternated between coming up to one’s ankles, all the way to one’s knees. Even the smaller private domes were affected with lesser amounts of water, leaving dirt and sediment and kelp behind along with an assortment of other sea life.
Now we all remember what happened last time something grew inside the Sphere right? Thankfully, there’s been a fair amount of supplies that have been accrued, and it involves gloves, face masks and a good damn amount of bleach to go with those large scrub brushes. There’s also huge pails of soapy water that are used to clean up things from the bleach. Everything is wet and it smells a bit like an indoor swimming pool, but it’s definitely safer to be safe than sorry.
So pick up a brush and pitch in. Those who do may find a little extra something from the Council delivered to their homes in a basket. Those who don’t may find themselves a little bit on the Council’s unofficial shitlist. And given that Max runs the Black Market, it’s not a great place to find yourself. Maybe you were sort of shoved towards this and were doing it haphazardly. Maybe you give a damn. Either way, food and water will come to you, and everyone will be better once this place is cleaned up.
Or so people keep telling ya anyway.

Of course, if there’s one thing that history and eighties movies have taught us, it’s that where there’s giant buckets of soapy water around, and hoses, and big sponges, then there’s bound to be one thing that happens: a water fight. And a big one at that. Kids (or kids at heart) have been not so subtlety wandering around with buckets filled with cold water, or sponges dipped in them and a few of them have hoses. There’s no bleach in them thankfully (because it’s all fun and games until someone gets a chemical burn) but the water fight is a good way to let off some of the tension that the folks in the Sphere have been getting up too.
So are you a victim, or are you a perpetrator. Do you care either way? But it doesn’t matter because this fight is huge and when there’s this much water flying around, there really isn’t any space for anyone to be a bystander here. Sorry.
with a suitcase full of summertime
Do y’all know what we happened to miss while we were underwater?! The summer solstice. And once things are all cleaned and cleared up, your resident summertime goddess ain’t gonna let it pass without knowing it, and it’s something the inhabitants of the Sphere take to like ducks to water. Wine and dancing is flowing all around and there’s a few fiddlers and jazz musicians dancing around. Because when the queen of the underworld prods ya gently, you get up and do it.
As the night and people’s alcohol levels rise, people start to become more daring with the fire. After all, everything is all cleaned but probably still slightly damp from what had happened, so there’s no problem with people swinging poi around, or using hula hoops set alight. There are even some among us who happen to be going out and jumping over bonfires in order to create good luck for the new year to great cheers of the people around them.

Do you know what else is a thing during this? Flower crowns. There are tons of flower crowns and various people are sitting around and teaching people how to make their own. The materials, including fresh flowers of all varieties are scattered around the field in the agricultural dome, and people are sitting criss-cross applesauce in order to add ribbons to the stems. For those people who are loathe to wear them, it almost becomes a game for other people to plant them on those resilient folks heads. People use magic or guile or just plain old tossing them in order to make it so that they land on people’s heads. More than that, a group of people will audibly cheer each time one lands. (And of course jeer when they lose one.)
exploration: teeth and bones.
After what had happened, there really is no putting back the seals on the doors to the places that were opened up, even though the council has tried with some of them. There are some doors that are deemed too dangerous to let anyone go inside of (lava and ghosts are not good things to let loose inside the Sphere, no matter how fun it would be at the time) but the door in the infirmary (in the morgue) needs to be open for practical purposes. Which may not be great for people who work in the infirmary, but there it is.
Once people drop through a hatched hole in the floor of the morgue, there’s tunnels extended out for several hundred yards, into the dark. If you have a flashlight, it’s clear to see that here and there the walls are etched with Latin, carved into the stone of the tunnels themselves in what looks more than a little bit like scratches rather than anything that resembles tool marks. The words are repeated at first, over and over: ”cave veniunt!" And "ossa et dentibus illius ruminandum!" Along with the repeated: “cave.”
The skeletons inside are supposed to have been all taken care of, but you can’t help the uneasy feeling that moves down your neck in the darkness, or the way that you can swear you can hear more than a little bit of a hiss of bone. There are things discarded here on the floor of the hallway, gathering more value with the deeper that you go, but is it worth being down here in the dark with the dead for that?
let's go to the movies, let's go see the stars
So, Alex made a post, and then she went and badgered Max into giving them the money to do it, so in the middle of the merchant dome, a large screen has been set up, and there’s space for people to have blankets or chairs from home set up in front of the screen. Various vendors have set up carts or stalls here and there, selling the sort of foods that one would expect at the movies (popcorn, homemade candies, soda, juice, wine and beer, nachos and that sort of thing) along with some that one may not expect: (full curry dinners, burgers, basically a bit like a food truck festival. If you can imagine it it’s there.)
Before the movie, there’s cartoons running, some familiar, and some not, and this is an event that people have seemed to have taken to well. Children run around here taken with the idea for the movie, and it’s a fun, summery festive sort of atmosphere with a community vibe, despite the wine and beer for sale.

Well, at least until the movie starts anyway. Groundhog Day has a fair bit wrong with it honestly, and people are taking notice of that. After all, it was from the 80s, a period that wasn’t exactly known for its political correctness or sensitivity. And there’s the small fact that Bill Murry is kind of the worst as well. So, there are some people who have taken issue with the movie that has been chosen. Those people are definitely taking the Mystery Science Theatre approach to this movie, while others are taking issue with them doing that.
So which crowd do you join? Are you watching the movie quietly? Are you joining in the hecklers? Either way, it definitely seems like a fun night out.

Alex Reagan | The Black Tapes Podcast
[Alex easily chips into doing some of the actual cleaning here in the Sphere, because it's easier than cooking and there's always something zen about it. Comfortable clothing was decided on before, things that she doesn't mind having wrecked, including a shirt that says: 'In my defense I was left unsupervised' and a pair of shorts. She'd been hard at work for a while when one of the taller teenage boys (and honestly, when you're 5'1" almost everyone is taller than you are) manages to dump an entire bucket of water mostly over the top of her head.
Sopping wet (and with a loud cry that is almost a yowl) Alex just rounds on the boy, and other people, because this is an act of war. Grabbing another bucket of water, Alex chases after him, but she's outpaced by him and his stupid legs. It's a valiant effort, flinging that water at his back, but it's one that's definitely in vain as instead the majority of it splashes onto the people nearby.
Oops.]
Oh my gawd! I'm so sorry!

[Okay, this was probably silly. Okay, maybe it is flat out silly, but Alex is going to do it anyway. After all, she's had a fair amount of stuff out of Persephone's flask which was lovely, and there was other forms of booze around. Which is probably why Alex is sitting cross-legged on the ground with a group of kids twisting and turning some of the yellow roses and baby's breath together with ivy and ribbons to make her own flower crown. The work is slightly off-center, and a little sloppy, but she still rests it on the top of her head, before she dots a deep curtsy to children as she stands up.
And the too-large crown slides right down off her head onto the ground.]
Oops.
Let's go to the movies.
[This was her idea, so of course Alex is here, whether or not she could actually drag anyone from her family along. Collecting some popcorn and a meat and vegetable thing onto a stick, she works her way along the crowd, heading towards a piece of land in the middle that she can plop down the blanket she's got in her bag on. Anyone who greets her is met with a smile, and when she finds her bit of land, Alex sets things down in order to shake out a large blanket from her oversized bag. After it's down, she adds a few throw pillows and a bottle of wine to her popcorn and kabab, before offering some of it to anyone who happens to be around.
No glasses for the wine, though. They're definitely doing this like savages.]
cleaning
With the given gloves and facemask (greatly appreciated against the smell of bleach), she didn't look the duchess in her workdress, her hair covered with a long kerchief. On the other hand, she was also too practical to wear anything that wouldn't stand against a hard wash.
She'd been cleaning for a good half hour before things started to get rough. She tried to ignore the rough housing in favor of her work, when she felt a great amount of water splashing against her back and left arm, causing her to let out a few rather unladylike words.]
Alex!? [she stood to see who was the culprit, shock replacing irritation.] I thought you were better than that.

Theon Greyjoy | Game of Thrones
If there's anything that brings Theon out into the open it's the promise of alcohol. He's not been in a particularly good mood since arriving in the Sphere and it hadn't gotten better with the invasive show of one of his memories leaving him laying even lower than he had been before.
But, the music lifted his spirits ever so slightly despite himself. He drank and drank, drowning his myriad of sorrows and guilt in the wine. He wasn't foolish enough to start playing around with fire. He wasn't so much a coward but he also wasn't going to start taking unnecessary risks now.
At least this place is warm and not at the beginning of true Westerosi winter. While he won't join in most of the festivities he's looking less unwelcoming than usual as he sits and watches. So at least if you sit and talk with him he's not likely to immediately snap at you.

[ Theon is not pleased with the flower crown that landed on his head and looks around for the culprit. ]
Did you do that? [ Excuse him while he pulls the flower crown off grumpily. ]
Theon had managed to get his hand on a light source that he didn't quite understand before he went exploring. He didn't ask anyone to join him. He doesn't trust anyone here and he doesn't want to. He wants to go home even though he knows he is dying...or dead there. He doesn't belong here. He doesn't deserve the "second chance" that being here affords and he doesn't want it. So it's a careless disregard for his own well being that keeps driving him deeper into the cave.
There's an eeriness to this place. It's not like the crypt at the Starks that had an eerie quality but also a peaceful atmosphere.
He examines some of the items as he goes along, frowning at most of them unsure of what he's looking at in most cases. If he came across any weapons -- at least of the sort he recognizes he'd keep them. The words on the wall had made little sense to him. He's certainly not thinking he'll find any answers here.

Simon Reese | The Black Tapes Podcast
Simon finds that he enjoys the music. While he's not drinking he found a place near one of the musicians and is sitting in comfortable silence. He's keeping an eye on Alex the way he usually does, of course, but he's also interested in the jazz music.
The last thing that Simon wants to deal with is a water fight. He scowls when the water first hits him. If he had been bilocating this body would have disappeared. But he's not currently bilocating and as such he can't just poof. So instead, his steps are quicker if he didn't know who had hit him with the water. He's not interested in fighting back and instead is looking for the closest place to get out of the way of the giant water fight.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out he's not thrilled with this.
To explore, Simon's chosen to bilocate. He has a flashlight as he starts to explore. The words on the walls aren't hard to read for him. He isn't sure what it means past the simple translation of them. It doesn't mean he understands. He'll certainly have to contemplate it over.
He continues deeper, the place doesn't feel good but he's not worried about his safety. He looks for things that would be informative that would provide more information. Maybe he'll get lucky.
Simon isn't particularly thrilled at the idea of a movie night. However, one Alex Reagan wouldn't let it go until he agreed to come. So, he's here and he's not particularly impressed with the whole thing either. There is some popcorn, though, and thanks to Beverly he now knows that he likes that. So, find the brooding guy eating the popcorn and looking somehow completely out of place.

[Jason was having a good time, he was running around utilizing his abilities to dump unsuspecting folk. He doesn't have to properly interact with anyone to enjoy himself. He was decently soaked himself but that was just part of the fun.
There seem's to be someone annoyed with the situation, the perfect target. He follows him, invisible till he's settled down somewhere he thinks is safe from the mayhem of the fight. But Jason looms over behind him with a bucket brimming with water with the intent to annoy. He goes for the kill holding his breath as he materializes behind him the bucket tipping.]

Stan Uris ( It 2017 )
Stan likes books more than he likes tv and film but there's something nice about this. The movie that's playing is a bit silly for his tastes. Richie would have loved it, so Stan keeps watching it even though he's rolling his eyes. He enjoys plenty of popcorn and indulges in a bit of candy. He's settled on a blanket that there for him and Bev but sometimes she wanders off.
He doesn't mind. He's okay being alone but he's in a good mood so he'll at least wave to his acquaintances.
When Beverly is around it might be noticeable that Stan starts to act more like a kid should, smiling and laughing and not having a studious and serious expression as he's wont to do.

Ubbe Ragnarsson | Vikings
Ubbe feels it natural to assist in the clean up. He's a part of this community after all and it had been something that had affected them all. Vikings might have their failings by modern standards but they lived in a communal way for the most part amongst their own. While cleaning wasn't something he usually did as the son of the King he wasn't completely unaccustomed and neither did he think himself above it.
So, he'll be find working hard and long to get as much as he can cleaned up. Who knows what dangers would remain if they didn't.
[ Ubbe doesn't know who starts the water fight and he doesn't care. He laughs as it begins and then quickly escalates. He's more than happy to dump water on anyone who seems like they need to join in on the fun in particular. ]
[ The idea of a movie is still a strange concept to Ubbe. However, Alex had made a good enough case for him to give it a try. He has a hard time following this movie, however, and gets antsy to move before too long.
He gets himself a beer and some food of various types and he's more focused on those than the movie. ]

She found the blanket Ubbe had previously claimed, and carefully sat down with some pear cider and a small serving of chicken curry on sticks. The movie wasn't familar to her either, but she had an easier time getting the gist.]
[She looked up when he joined her back on the blanket.] I think what happened is, the gods are playing a sort of joke on the main character, and making him repeat the same day over and over-or perhaps it's so he could learn a lesson.

Thor Odinson | MCU | OTA
[It looked like Thor had arrived just in time. He grinned as he walked around, taking in the revels of the people in his midst. Men, women, he smiled at them all, taking a drink when he's offered. Another one places a ring of flowers around his neck. He nods his head gratefully in thanks. He smiles, moving to listen to the musicians, sipping the wine and letting it all just flow around him.
It allowed him not to think of anything but that moment. The rest, the past, all of it a delicate way to distract him from what he should have been thinking about. The past, the losses, it's all pushed away. He doesn't want to think about any of that, he just wants to eat and drink. He wants to dance and forget, happy when the sun goes down and the fires come out.
The sun would not shine on him for a while.
Thor grins, running up to one of the larger bonfires. Good luck, they say. Well, then who is he to not enjoy the moment. Finishing his drink, he drops his chalice on the ground and runs, jumping high and easily clearing bonfire with a few inches beneath him. He yells, throwing his hands in the air as he turns around.]
And that's how a God does it. Yeah!

[Thor could not understand what the problem was. His ax and his lightning could give off light, well some of it anyway. He had heard that it might be in their best benefit to come down here and look around. Being in a new place, he wanted to explore. A good distraction from the world that he'd come from.
To be fair, one glance around the darkened room made him think he was in Valhalla. All the bones that littered the ground made him doubt that there was anything else of value. Still, it was better than going back. Anything would give him a clue, information he could use and barter with.
Or so he hoped.]

[From far beyond Loki's expectations, Odin had called him son, had expressed pride, had been impressed with what Loki had been able to accomplish. He'd been unable to speak as his father's great essence had faded, gone to his mother's side. All he'd ever wanted was to be accepted, to be loved equally to Thor, and he'd gotten it, but at what cost? He'd hardly been given purchase to process it, either, with everything that happened afterward.
Now, here they were, the only remaining pieces of their dysfunctional family and he was at a loss for words again. Let us not discuss them, Thor suggested. He was more than happy to oblige. Expressing himself had never been a skill of his, but hesitantly, he returned his brother's embrace, patting the God of Thunder's back gently. It was difficult to rob Loki of words, but Thor had been doing it regularly of late...he couldn't be more proud to call him brother.
Or himself Odinson. For the first time in nearly ten years, it felt...good. Right, even.]

Cole 'the Grifter' Cash | Wildstorm Comics | OTA
[Cole isn't necessarily someone people would think would get off his ass to help people he doesn't know clean up after a natural disaster he hadn't even experienced. Most people don't know Cole Cash. He's a man who knows what it's like to be a defenseless bystander to things bigger and scarier than you, he knows the hopelessness of absolute loss, and he knows the relief of it being held at bay for just a little while.
He's also a man who gets bored really damned easily and he'd rather be working than doing something stupid. Even in the temperature-regulated halls of the dorms, though, it's hot work, and the blond has his hair pulled back with what looks to be a red and black bandanna, his black t shirt discarded to the side showing a well-muscled frame scattered with scars. Some were clearly knife wounds, one or two are from bullets...and the others...might be from claws? It's hard to say. Many are faded.
When he notices someone watching but not working, he stops, raising an eyebrow and cocking his head to the side slightly.]

[He's just taking a break, really, just five minutes to have a smoke and not do back-breaking labor at the behest of people he doesn't even know. He's spent a lot of his life doing shit for other people, though. Showing up with the Sphere in this state is almost destiny...you know, if he believed in shit like that.
Cole Cash: do-boy and grease monkey, always around to get his hands dirty so the suits don't have to, that was his life. He'd almost even made peace with it. He pulled a smoke out of the pack in his back pocket and had just taken that first really puff, just tasted that acrid promise of death that never came-
-when a wet sponge smacked against his chest, splashing just enough soapy water in his face to both extinguish his cigarette and ruin any chance of it ever lighting again. Iceberg eyes raise slowly as he tosses the sodden smoke to the ground.]

a. time to shine
Her attention drops to Cole and lingers at the scars on his chest as he speaks to her.
She does happen to be somewhat dressed for clean up duty. She's wearing her usual boots, a pair of greasy work pants and a dark tank top. A pair of welding googles is looped through threw her belt, accompanied with a set of work gloves that are primarily used when working with metal.]
I wasn't planning on standing around. [She informs him lightly.] I was planning to head to work but it seems that you've got this hallway blocked. [With a lot of people and buckets and water and... Enis sighs.]
I guess I'm stuck helping.
[She isn't really good at cleaning up... which Cole will quickly discover. It isn't like Enis has had to do anything like this before.]

Thank Hecate. [ The words were a muttered with a slight hint of relief as Charis found the alcohol. This was definitely a pleasant surprise after the disaster of a world she'd come from. It felt like an eternity since she'd last seen something like this. In a way it was oddly familiar. It stirred old memories of the strange things that humans had begun to do when her people had first ended up stuck on Earth. Sometimes familiar was nice.
At first she keeps her distance from the center of activities. Instead she sticks to the shadows and drinks while she watches. For the most part that's what she can be found doing: drinking and watching. That is until much later in the night when the copious amounts of alcohol started to loosen her up just a little. Then she can be found dancing, weaving gracefully between people and eventually even flipping effortlessly over the bonfire. If the fire touches her it certainly doesn't leave a mark or even seem to bother her. ]
b.we're heckling! it's good to be heckling again!
[ It was something to do. That was the only reason she was here at all. Okay, maybe that wasn't the only reason. Maybe there was a slight curiosity involved. Either way she was here and found a spot to watch this "Groundhog Day" movie. If she was honest she'd admit that she'd expected a movie about a groundhog, not whatever this disaster was. Then again if she were honest she'd also admit she was disappointed it wasn't a full movie about the adventures of a groundhog.
She was not honest though. ]
Messing around with time never works out this happily. You don't just get a do over and a happy ending. [ Okay so maybe her bitterness came out a bit too much there. ]

Kelson was deeply confused. Why was everyone was heavily involved in.....cleaning? At least it looked like cleaning, but there were several implements and odd smells he most definitely wasn't familiar with. And honestly, he wasn't entirely sure how to use them. It certainly looked like cleaning was probably a good idea, with lots of 'outside' things having made their way inside.
The king wasn't a stranger to cleaning and scrubbing, he'd done his fair share as a page and squire, but this seemed different than just mucking out stables. He leans over to the closest person to ask, ".....do I just scrub?" It seemed important work, and he didn't want to do more harm than good helping out.
let's go to the movies
It was time for more things that Kelson wasn't quite familiar with, some kind of moving artwork with sound and music, and vendors filled with foods and drink that he didn't recognize. Okay, two things he recognized, beer and wine. The beer smelled different than what he was used too, but the alcohol was obvious for what it was. The other food and drink, not so much.
Kelson sat down, trying to follow what was going on in the story, but he was a little out of his element.

Her head rose at the question, gray-blue eyes meeting Kelson's as he looked onto the task with a level of uncertainty that she was familiar with.
"Yes. Here. Let me show you." She took the rag in her hand as if to show him and dipped it into the water bucket next to her. She then ran over the area, scrubbing away the black marks marring the surface of the floor.
"It's important to ring it out from time to time. Some buckets have cleaning solutions in them but others just have water. When the water gets too dirty we replace it with clean water." Her voice was delicate and sweet, teaching but not judging him for not knowing how to clean.
