They’re sleeping, the way they always do with both of them curled up in the sunken bed that dominates the bedroom floor of the dome that they’d been sharing for over a year now, barring the nights when she’d been kidnapped. But it’s not the same two of them that went to bed as it is when they wake up. Not by a long shot. When Alex wakes, it’s not to the sun shining in her windows. Before everything happened with the show, Alex did sleep quite late and needed to set several alarms so she could make work on time.

Right now the only alarm that she’s had is that her face is pressed against someone’s bare chest. Not an entirely unheard of thing happening but it’s not something that she remembers from last night where she had just come home from work alone and had gone to bed alone. Definitely gone to sleep alone and not wherever the fuck this happened to be that was definitely not her sunny bedroom in Seattle!

Attempting to throw herself backwards off the bed, the dim light from the Sphere catches her eye, and the wall around the bed catches her back and Alex can’t help but to let out a scream at both. It’s a true scream and not a sound that Alex actually makes very often, but it’s very her nonetheless. More than that, it's very loud in the small and enclosed space of the bed that the two of them were currently in.

Alex just scowls at him, but she does pick up a tissue from the nightstand and put it on the skin behind her ear anyway. There's more than a healthy dash of skepticism in her when she asks: "why? Are you like a secret knight Templar or something? Illuminati? I thought you're just an author and a professor? That's what you just said."

"I'm none of the above, but obsession doesn't need logic." He's fairly certain he's pieced the threads together that explain Warren's obsession with him (with Coralee leading the way). That doesn't mean he's planning on telling this girl that.

"But he needs to be obsessed with you for a reason. He didn't just pick you out of a phonebook or anything. If it was my world, it'd make sense: you're a big name skeptic with an institute set on debunking everything. Why is he obsessed with just a professor and author?"

[nobasisinfact]

"My father was involved with the exchange of occult relics." That's as far as he's willing to give to a complete stranger.

"He was?" Alex just considers that for a moment, and she touches her fingers to her face as she does it. "I wonder if that's something that the you from my world has in common with you." It would explain some things, but she doesn't add that, though it's probably obvious on her face.

"But he's willing to set this all up, something that costs at least hundreds of thousands of dollars because your father was involved in occult relics? There has to be more than that."

Richard offers a noncommittal shrug this time. "You're trying to apply rationality to the obsessed. It's doubtful you'll find an answer you want."

Alex is just going to mutter: "well, that's one thing that doesn't change about you."

[nobasisinfact]

He raises a dangerous brow. "And what is that?"

“You being evasive when asked a direct question.” Alex doesn’t back down from the brow. Instead hers raises too.

[nobasisinfact]

"You're looking for me to say something like my having some form of magic powers and am some sort of anit-messiah. I don't and I'm not."

[11calls]

"But you know more than you're saying. You can't bullshit me that well, Strand." Alex is just going to scowl. "And none of that explains what the hell I'm doing here."

[nobasisinfact]

"I don't owe you any insights into my personal life and history."

[11calls]

"You're the one who's saying that I'm here because of some obsession someone has with you. You do owe me something because I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you and whatever boner this Thomas Warren has for you."

[nobasisinfact]

"I didn't ask for you to be involved." He's going to drink some more of that scotch now.

[11calls]

"And you think I did? I'm not the one with some sort of billionaire arch Nemesis!" Alex is just going to huff the words at him dangerously.

[nobasisinfact]

"All you have to worry about is figuring out how to get out of here."

[11calls]

"How can I worry about getting out of here if I don't have the facts about how I got in here in the first place?" She scoffs. "And here I thought you were supposed to make sense!"

[nobasisinfact]

"You don't need to know my personal history to figure out how to get out of here."

[11calls]

"Don't you know what they say about being forewarned is forearmed? Look. This is about you. This isn't about me. I have no idea about Warren, or this you. Only the you I know."

[nobasisinfact]

"From what I can gather you didn't know much about the me from your world, either." A low blow? Perhapse, but one that he feels is accurate and deserved.

Alex's eyes go flat, and her jaw sets itself into a dangerous way that Richard would have been familiar with if he knew her. It's Alex at her most harsh and bitey and without any of the love that would normally temper such things when she speaks. "Do you want to know what I know about you from my world, Dr. Strand?" Alex's voice is cold and furious. "I know that you're a man who so desperately doesn't want to believe that there's such a thing as a paranormal that you'd do anything to prove that it's not. I know that you're a man whose wife went missing for five days and you were considered the prime suspect in her murder until the cops changed their suspicions to a serial killer who was working in the area. I know that you lie about being married and you attempt to bully anyone who is even open to the possibility beyond what we can prove with your money and your personality. Including me. You're so desperate to disbelieve and disprove things that you use reasoning that doesn't make sense and blame everything on an unhappy marriage just because you had one. You're a man who keeps secrets and tells half-truths at best so you'll have to forgive me if I'm not buying into this bullshit you're trying to sell me, especially when we wake up naked, in bed together and in a place surrounded by what appears to be a happy home."

"I'm sorry to destroy your belief in who you think I am, but I have no reason to use my money in the way you've stated, and I'm quite happy in my marriage. Therefore, it would be best if you ceased thinking of me as the man you met." For his part, Richard doesn't seem put off by what Alex is saying. He's comfortable in his marriage and the time she'd mentioned he'd found his wife and had the situation explained to him. Not that the girl needed to know about it.

"It's not who I think you are. It's who the you I know is. Just because you've gotten lucky and have a different life doesn't make me wrong about him." Alex's chin is up, and she's still got anger in her eyes. "So don't tell me what I do and don't know, Strand."

[nobasisinfact]

"You're not talking to him, are you?" He raises a brow before taking a drink of his scotch and looking around some more. "It'd be best if you remember that when talking to me." It might have sounded condescending (Coralee had told him a number of time that he had a way of doing that), but it was also deserved. This girl, a child, really, had been assuming he was the man she knew since the beginning - he wasn't. Whatever was going on here had given her a clear belief that she knew someone similar to or seeming like himself. She needed to get over that assumption if she was going to be of any use.

“Then stop acting like he does! You’re hiding something that might be the key to getting us out of whatever this Warren guy has done. Look,” Alex just sighs and she blows her hair out of her face. “Just ask me whatever you want and we can like try and figure this thing out.”
