A New Year A New You
Ghosts.
John warned people. She told them not to interact with the ghosts. Persephone warned people. She told them that some of them weren’t ghosts at all. But no one listened. And after three months whatever tenuous hold the Sphere had upon those ghosts have been broken. The ghosts are here, and they are hungry. They’re hungry for life, for knowledge, to give people knowledge and of course to make certain that the Sphere becomes a city of the dead like them.

For the most part, the ghosts are feral, even the ones that have been fine before as they slipped in and out of being around and not. But they are not all ghosts of people. No, they are the ghosts of everything that has had a body that has died in the Sphere: sirens, skeletons, androids, people. How much less intelligent they were determines how feral and animal like the ghosts have become and how violent their attacks will be. For example: the most violent ghosts are the sirens, following that are the skeletons, following that the ghosts of NPCs with ghost of player characters lasting the longest.

Other than Annie I mean. She has a special part to play later.

Ghosts are drawn to single parties, or to small groups of them, the life the people offer like a beacon in the blackness of their minds. Their attacks aren’t coordinated—more often than not they’re simply striking out with energy claws and attempting to drain the life out of people. At first fighting them off is relatively easy to do, like a nightmare it’s simply getting away. But as people start to congregate into groups the attacks become larger, more powerful and more dangerous.

It is during this time that weapons will be come apparent: salt of course, placed in a circle around people, anything silver, and people of faith will also be protected. What that faith in is up to you, however.

your character dies as a result of this attack, they will be considered a ghost for the rest of the plot with all that comes with it, including attacking others. If you wish your character to die consider the timing in that. Automatic saving from death is suspended during this plot, but if your character dies they lose any powers they have.

However, there will be some ghosts who will want to talk to your characters. They will want to answer questions for them. Those will be placed in a separate NPC tag below. This is where Annie comes in, so if characters have issues with her, that may be an important thing to consider. Because Annie will remember.

In a desperate attempt to stop the attacks and the Sphere itself, the giant golden glowball will try something dangerous. It’s going to attempt to reset people using their memories. However this is going to backfire badly. Instead it will cause dead characters from people’s past to show up for the last day of the plot only January 28th. No dead characters from the persons home world may appear before then and they will disappear on January 29th. Please keep in mind these will be feral ghosts and not actually the characters themselves and they should be treated as such.

On January 29th at midnight, the Sphere will do something even more desperate: it will kill everyone within the Sphere which means everyone wakes up in their domes in the sunken bed on the floor. There is no penalty involved in this death, no memory loss or anything like that and everyone within the Sphere will be reset and the ghosts will be absent.

Enis bit the inside of her cheek, tasting the copper aroma of blood roll across her tongue as she tried to steady her temper. When she spoke, her voice was stof and tight. "I don't want others to know the life that I was born into. A single room and purpose isn't enough."

“The life that you were born into isn’t the life you have here though. While yes, you did not chose to come here, it doesn’t mean that you don’t have your choices to make. There can be a life for you here if you chose to have one.”

"It isn't." She agreed softly. Enis was a bit conflicted about her life here but she didn't know if Anne would understand. "I can have a life here until some force happens to send me back." She might stay in the Sphere if she was given the choice.

"I'm tired of not having control." The one thing she can control was how she will one day die.

"Dying isn't control. Dying is the ultimate lack of it. If you die, then you don't even have control over what your legacy was."

"I never had control over my legacy." Her father made sure of that. "The only thing I can choose is how I die. Everything else had been taken from me."

"No one has control over your legacy here but you." It's said simply, and softly but firmly. "You don't need to die for that."

"My legacy is my fathers and I don't wish for it to live on." Her expression was very sad. "He made it so I cannot die and this world makes it so I cannot die. That was the only part of my life I could control and it's gone."

As long as she lives she will be hunted and could be used as her father had intended and built for her. There was nothing Enis could do to stop this.

"I wish you were right. It is peaceful here. I can do whatever. But that will all change when I return home." She didn't want to go back.

"Maybe you do not need to return home. That might be a possibility too. We do not know what the Sphere will do in the end. But trying to die here before you know is a bad and wasteful idea. All it will do is deny you good experiences while you are present and here." Annie sounds like she knows this from personal experience, and maybe she does to a point.

"We don't know and I'd stay here if I could but that choice isn't mine. That's why its worth it. I'd rather die here trying to have my own life than return there." That didn't mean she could have her own life but Enis was trying.

"I've had more pleasant experiences than I ever thought possible. It's enough. I don't need more."
spherenpc: (annie)

[personal profile] spherenpc 2020-03-27 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
"But how are you having your own life if you are willing to end the pleasant experiences with a stupid search? I don't understand." And she really doesn't--it doesn't compute to her.

For the first time, Enis smiled. "Because there are people I love here. Rhys, Bev, Tommy. I'd do anything to keep them safe and give them the choice to either stay here or go home. No one should have their own fates taken out of their hands."
spherenpc: (annie)

[personal profile] spherenpc 2020-03-29 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"You don't know that it would mean that they would be given the chance to stay. It could just spit them back out into their worlds without giving them a choice. It could kill all of us. We don't know what it's emergency system protocols are."

[personal profile] blindpuppet 2020-03-30 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
"I know." She exhaled a sigh. "But doing nothing doesn't seem much better."

Maybe the risk was too great. It was hard for Enis to calculate everything where there was so much that she didn't know.

“Doing nothing has its benefits. Doing nothing means that you gather more data. Better ways to remove the variables.”
