Her lungs were burning now, so she only acknowledged him with a slight nod before pushing herself off him, immediately swimming to where she could see the surface. Her hands gripped the edge of the stuck door and she broke through the surface of the water with a long, sharp gasp.
She continued to gasp for air as she tread water, more focused on filling her lungs than the reality that the man who helped her was able to breath and speak under water. Even when it dawned on her he was capable of that, she was aware she didn't have time to ponder or question how he was capable of it. She'd been in Riverview long enough to see all sorts of wondrous people.

Taking another deep breath, Gyda dove back into the water, looking to see what the problem was. Thanks to the googles, she had a clearer picture of what could be done; the mechanism to the door was stuck open, a crack large enough to let water in, but small so that only someone her size could get through.
