005: Sing Me To Sleep [Closed]

She was sitting among the trees of the garden dome as her voice rises into the air. Her hair had been braided to either side of her head while a large light pink sweater covered most of her frame. Beneath it was a short skirt and below that was a pair of well worn leather boots. The most striking thing about the young woman was the sweetness of her voice. It lifted and warmed those around her and ebbed and flowed with the notes of the song.

Just a day, just an, ordinary day
Just tryin' to get by
Just a boy, just an, ordinary boy but
He was looking to the sky and
As he asked if I would come along
I started to realize that everyday he finds just what he's lookin' for
And like a shooting star he shines, and he said

Don't you see your dreams lie right in the palm of your hand

She had no idea what she was doing but she was happily singing about a boy she'd met.

There's a moment where The Doctor has to think about the question being asked, and still continues to smile; "Yes. The vocal vibrations in your voice stirred the brain neurons that provoke emotion and thus feeling happier. Least for the moment."

And he won't say it but he also probably felt the positive vibrations in the psychic forcefield around his head and allowed the vibrations onto the surface of his mind.

Which maybe - for just a moment - Angel felt a slight shield resistance at first.

She blinked at him. "W-what?" She knew a little bit about magic and energy but she didn't know anything about science.

"Is vibration when you shake very hard?"

She was really confused.

Ten pops his mouth; "Shaking can cause vibrations. Well usually ones that you see but thar are also ones that you can't see but might only feel."

What's a good example?

"Music for instance- singing or instrumental are caused by vibrations of the vocal box or a part of the instrument and thus - create the sound you hear of the singing or of the instrument playing."

"Oh. Like a string of an instrument?" That was something that she knew a great deal about. She'd always loved to play string instruments and have recently learned more about the cords by teaching Rhys the guitar.

"I think I understand."

She mostly understood.

"But you said that it stirred something in your brain?" It sounded very painful.

"Yes." Ten smile excitedly which switches over to more of a professor look;

"You have channels that run through your entire brain and with the right sound frequency can travel through all those channels either being pleasant or painful."

"Oh." She lapsed into silence as she tried to understand what he was saying. It really did sound like he was speaking another language. "So you're saying when I sing... it makes people happy?"

It was a somewhat logical sum up.

"Yes." Is the enthusiastic reply.

"Oh." She looks surprised. "I didn't know I could do that."

Her fingers lightly brush against her lips as if considering something important. "I wish... I wish I had finished my studies." Then she would have already known that.

The Doctor remarks curiously; "What studies?"

"I was to be a Keeper but I left before I could finish. I was only there for two years." It was a lot more complicated than that but it was difficult for her to explain since there wasn't anyone here who knew of her world.

"Where I'm from. We all have callings but I left... before I could complete mine."
