"Because you shouldn't wield a weapon unless you properly know how to use it. Otherwise you're more likely to hurt yourself then someone else." He might engage in scathing, mocking remarks most of the time, but when it comes to weapons, Ivar doesn't fool around. He's been using them since he was five years old and knows what he's talking about.

He pulls out one of his own knives. "Front grip." He holds the blade so that the thumb is closest to the blade, the way most people held knives. "Reverse grip." He flips it around and holds it like an icepick so that the finger closest to the blade is the pinkie finger. "Most people use front grip for more precise stabbing, if you're aiming for a specific body part like an eye. Reverse grip is for when you need more force behind the blade and just need to kill someone as quickly as possible."
