Who; Loki (
itsnothingpersonal) and Charis (
wasinnocent)
What; Once upon a time, Loki and Charis went on an adventure and found an egg.
When; Right now
Where; The abandoned domes, hidden behind a veil
They'd never expected it to hatch, not really. There'd been no telling how long the egg, iridescent blue and clearly magical, had been hidden away from anyone, lost and guarded by the eternal skeletons set to protect it who knew how long ago. As soon as they'd touched the thing, the guardians had attacked, and that meant having to unmake spells quickly. The weave holding them together had proven more intricate than he'd anticipated, and they'd left the sub-basement worse for wear due to all the explosions of power. They'd escaped unscathed, though, and after a bit of deliberation, had decided to hide the egg away, incubate it, and hope for the best.
There'd been no denying the creature was a being of an ancient magic, but other than that, they could determine nothing. Even for all the hunting through the library he'd done, there was no record of an egg of this type, or the creature that grew (hopefully) within. All they could do was wait.
And now, a stirring in the egg pulled his attention from the book he was reading. He shot off a thought in Charis' direction.
The egg stirs. Coming?

On my way. She moved as fast as she could through the Sphere until she got to the location they'd moved the the egg to. She walked in and didn't actually try to hide the look of excitement on her face. They hadn't been able to figure out anything about what might be in the egg so whatever came out would be a complete surprise to them both.
"Think it's actually going to hatch?"
no subject
"Either that or it's in its death throes."

"You're excited too," a smirk accompanied her teasing. Over the course of their exploration and discovery she'd gotten more and more comfortable around him. Somehow they'd both decided really easily that they'd take the egg and bring it back with them. It wasn't even something that they'd needed to discuss. It just seemed to make sense that it was what they'd do. Now here they were and something was actually finally starting to poke through.

He grinned at her chiding, moving with her shove as though it were harder than it had been. "Only a little-" but his voice caught in his throat as the cracks began appearing across the surface of their little charge and he went still in anticipation. "h-how long does this normally take?"

"I've never felt anything like this before." His voice contained wonder, to be sure, but also trepidation. What if they couldn't control it?

"I can feel...." she wasn't sure what she could feel actually. Something completely different than anything she'd ever felt before. It was similar almost to Pegasus in some vague way, but maybe that was just the magic. "I don't know. We'll find out soon." Because it was definitely through.

And then it was free, at least its head, and the source of the light was made apparent by the shimmering motes of light that made up its tiny body.
"...Heavens, it's made of stars..."

"I've never seen anything like this. It's beautiful..."
no subject
"Nor have I, and no mention of it in any text. I have-" he was caught off-guard by the tiny dragon as it tumbled itself free from the rest of its confines and uncoiled itself awkwardly. It wasn't only beautiful, but adorable. The newborn star dragon blinks and looked around, trilling at the both of them.
"...oh. Hello, there."
no subject
"Do you think...girl or boy star dragon?" She reached a hand out to touch it and it rubbed up against her hand.

"Come on, little one." He really didn't have the first idea of how to rear an infant...anything.

Luckily the little creature seemed excited about it and moved towards the food to investigate. "Do you think it can eat it yet? Can't say I know how star dragon anatomy and biology works." What if she couldn't chew it yet? Or what if she actually could already? That'd be a pretty big implication for how she'd grow. "What have we gotten ourselves into?" The little dragon looked up at her and made a trilling sound before going back to the meat investigation. Damn she was cute. This was going to be a disaster.

"Something troublesome, but certainly interesting." He watched her eat hungrily, happy at least that she could eat the meat provided. "What shall we call her?"

She shook her head as if to clear the thoughts out. "Got any suggestions?"
no subject
"Bjartr. It means 'bright'."

"I don't know the first thing about raising a dragon made of stars, you know.'
no subject
"Guess we're both about to get some experience in it."
no subject
"I wonder what level of intelligence we should expect from her."
no subject
"There's no way to tell for now I guess." It would be interesting if she did turn out to be intelligent. Could also just make things a lot more complicated for them. "If she turns out too smart we may have problems. Especially trying to keep her away from other people here."
no subject
"Well. It will be enlightening if nothing else."
