If she didn't know better, she'd say this creature actually cared about what she had to say... but dogs and cats always look at people when they speak. She's sure it's just the sound of her voice keeping its interest.
She flinches when he licks her, and pokes his nose gently as a petty punishment. "That hurt, you mangy beast!" The affection is still clear in her voice, and she goes right back to petting him. If nothing else, she appreciates the intent.
Actually... she perks up, and glances back down at him. "Now that I think of it... can you die? Or will you be brought back like everyone else? Is there an afterlife only for animals?" There's another pause... she's on the brink of deciding that this is the first animal she's seen here, but she's still searching her brain for memories. Surely this isn't the only animal in the city.
