Instead, she just fishes her sunglasses out of her bag and puts them on, before turning back to him. The entire gesture is devoid of flourish and completely perfunctory; she's doing it because she wants to be wearing sunglasses, no other reason.

Maybe introducing herself makes her feel vulnerable, maybe the sunglasses help. They're a tactical advantage. No one can see where she's looking.
