It’s the most wonderful (welcome) time of the year

Christmas is coming earlier and earlier every year, which isn't a surprise but hey they're starting the Christmas/Winter stuff the week before thanksgiving. Because why not. this month’s party takes place in the Merchant dome. But it’s not the everyday appearance of the merchant dome. No, for the next five days the Merchant dome’s appearance has been altered to look like a sort of Bavarian Christmas Market. There are small clusters of tables every so often, so people can just sit and chat and eat and drink.

Some enterprising person has even managed to make it snow through some unknown means. It’s not cold, but the snow is soft and steady and slowly building up.

The entire dome, all of the streets and all of the merchant stalls are practically glowing with white fairy lights that are strung everywhere. Vendors in their stalls gleefully cry out to paterons passing by, offering them free food or drinks. The food consists of the sort of things that one might expect to find in a place like this: sausages on buns and on sticks, pretzels, pizza, loads of cookies of every variety that one could think of, including elaborately decorated gingerbread, chocolates, fruits, french fries. Think winter fair food, and be as absurd and as complicated and extra as you want. It is a fair, after all. Go nuts. Drinks are also along the same line: hot cider, mulled wine, hot buttered rum, hot chocolate both with booze and without, as well as all the normal things: water, coffee, tea, milk, soda, and a variety of fruit juices that you’ve both heard of and not.

But food isn’t the only free thing that people are giving away! They’re also offering characters hats and gloves and scarves, small toys, books, delicate ornaments, perfumes, wine… it’s a giant welcome party after all, and these people are cheerful and happy. Even offering to pay just gets met with laughter and being told not to worry about it.

Fun and frivolity.

There are even carnival rides set up! A medium sized ferris wheel, a carousel, a giant slide and ice skating ring are all along the outside of the stalls.

At the far end of the dome, the snow has fallen deeper and held to several inches. Wouldn’t you know it just happens to be perfect snowball snow! So, there of course needs to be a snowball fight! What did you think those free mittens and gloves and scarves are for after all? The snowball fight can be organized into teams, or one on one depending on the player’s choice. This is a friendly fight, of course, so no rocks or slush balls or anything. Well, probably not. No one in the Sphere is your mother.

So you want some summer?.

While the welcome party rages on in the merchant dome, people have made a smaller party in one of the recreation domes. Around the pools, as a matter of fact. There’s almost like a small barbecue clustered around the largest of the three pools, and the light is constant and sunny here. The large pool is olympic sized, and is a sparkling blue. It’s fresh water, and probably clean enough to drink. I still wouldn’t drink it. The second pool is slightly smaller and more kidney shaped with a gradual sand mound at one end of it. This pool is salt water and looks a bit more like a beach than a pool. The third pool is a kiddie pool, complete with a splash pad, that’s running. Buckets drop, it’s got one of those mushroom things, and sprinkler jets. There aren’t any kids though, so people are welcome to go nuts.

Bathing suits and towels are provided in the changing rooms. There’s frozen and fruity drinks flowing freely, along with finger food and snacks. Loud music is playing from a local band that’s just generally of a pop sort. There’s people dancing rather in a rather haphazard fashion, but the dance floor is there and present!

Oh yeah, and there's definitely the baths and everything too!

Carnival Rides

"I cannot be certain," Kell says as he studies them and then glances at his brother.

"But I think you would be okay."

There were more boxes here, really.

"I like that, my sweetling," Rhy smiles, pulling Watts a touch closer.

"Well of course I would be okay. I'd have you there to protect me," Rhy chuckles, nuding his brother with his elbow. "Admit it, Kell, you'd love to ride that big wheel thing."

Llewellyn smiled a little at the reply, “I’m glad, dearest.” He bumped lightly into Rhy’s side as he was pulled in closer, “I know I’m enjoying it already mm... quite a lot.”

And, feeling just a little brave and lighthearted for once, he leaned in to press a small kiss to Rhy’s temple as they walked. It was quick and soft, but he was trying. Enjoying the little rush that it gave him to know that this was fine, and that they were quite safe to enjoy themselves and each other’s company while they walked along to eat and take Pretzel somewhere he could stay out of trouble.

"Nah, start confident, stay confident. Don't stop believing in yourself, man."

Because if you can be that confident, you need to embrace it if you're going to live up to what you want to be.

[It takes only a few loops around the rink before she feels the weight of Jon's gaze following her. It isn't an uncomfortable feeling but one that she relates to the morning, waking up to see his messy black hair and shining dark eyes.

Her mouth curves into a smile as she carefully shifts her path and glides towards him.] You aren't skating. [It isn't a question but there is a slight teasing accusatory note to her tone.]

You should join me. I promise it's fun.

Llewellyn can’t deny that it’s good advice, even if he has seen over-confidence lead to some nasty falls of varying kinds over the years. “That’s quite encouraging, I’ll try to keep it in mind.”

If all else failed, the detective was reasonably good at fooling others about himself. Surely he could fool himself into thinking he was a semi-decent skater... Right? He does continue to work at it; another unsteady movement, followed by another. “I might... I might have a better sense of how this works? At least, it makes more sense having done it without toppling over for a little while.”

Well, that's lovely, isn't it? Rhy laughs in delight at the contact. What a sweet man, his shy love. It was not his normal, but he thought it was nice anyway.

"You're so silly, my love."

"Your center of balance, it's higher than you think it is, that's a big of why you're off balance. Bend your knees a bit more, bend forward just a tiny bit."

He hummed a little at the statement, “I do believe that is a correct assessment of me for the moment, though I would point out that you inspire me to be so.” Llewellyn responded quietly from behind his mug, as though he could hide the happy flush behind it. “Especially if I get to hear you laugh.”

Yes, he still quite liked being called that... It gave his heart a small rush, a particular kind of hopeful joy that he wasn’t accustomed to. It was all very new, but a good kind of new for once.

“Oh, really?” He responded, definitely a little curious.

Also, perhaps just a tad amused... “You know, where I’m from, everyone tells me to stand up straight. To think, my poor posture might actually aid in something for once.” He added with a little awkward movement as he tried to bend his knees in addition to his usual light slouch.

Fun and frivolity: OTA

[Honestly there's a part of Rey (more than a small one) that expects the snow to actually be salt, and she's entirely delighted to be surrounded by it, and the fairy lights. Wandering among the stalls with a bright blue scarf wrapped around her neck and her staff on her back, Rey is practically glowing as bright as a Christmas bauble herself. After the stress of the last few months has slipped from her face, and she actually looks as young as she actually is and not as old as she feels at this point.

She definitely is trolling the food stalls, playing with the snow and yes, maybe cheating a bit in a snowball fight by using the force. Rey isn't sorry in the slightest.

Additionally, Rey is riding all the rides, and getting into them with throwing her hands up and the like.]

Ferris Wheel: Closed to Ben.

[It's probably no surprise to anyone that Rey loves the Ferris wheel. It may not go as high or as fast as she likes, but it's still a bit like flying, and Rey does miss it. After spending so much time on Jakku and then being able to go wherever she wanted, being here inside of the Sphere can feel very limiting. But, the trade off of Ben being alive here makes all of the rest worth it. No matter what the Sphere decided to throw at them, Rey had decided she would handle it as long as he was here.

It had been a surprise when he'd asked her to go to the carnival with him. For Rey, she had just sort of assumed that they'd go together, because it was who the two of them are at this point. As fair as Rey was concerned, her and Ben really didn't need to talk about things like this, because it just felt like they didn't need to. The two of them were connected, and for someone who hadn't had a lot of experience with things other than Finn and Poe sort of simply just accepting that the three of them were friends in that same.

Talking about feelings and emotions is foreign to her, and that's probably no surprise considering the people who she was closest to. But sitting at the top of the stalled Ferris wheel as people far below them loaded on and off the ride, Rey just looks to him with a little smile.]

She nods at her father's question of killing both with the dagger, her face still neutral and as she looks at her father, she can tell he's concerned with her candour. Neither kills made her fear doing it or hesitate with the manner in which it was done.

Arya considers telling her father how the once Master of Coin looked before he died; how he cried and pleaded for his life. But she decided not to and instead took the dagger back and showed Needle's hilt that had been tucked away under the longer part of her cloak.

"Meryn Trant killed Syrio, but I kept up with his lessons," Arya replies, sheathing the dagger and settling back into place against her father's side. She pauses and nods again. "I went to Braavos."

Kell nearly smiles and he nudges him back gently as he looks at the contraption the other mentions.

"I would."

"Do I?" Rhy asks, smiling happily. "That sounds lovely. I do so enjoy it."

He pauses to lean forward and kiss Watts' cheek. How lovely.

Oh now he has to convince his brother to do it.

"Come join me there then. I don't know that I shall ever get Watts up in it with me."

That makes his cheeks flush a little more scarlet. Yes, this was lovely. “Yes, you truly do, dear...” He responded with a little chuckle, finally forced to lower his cups as they walked.

His eyes glancing down at the dog at their feet for a moment, before they returned to Rhy. “And, your enjoyment is the point. All of this is very enjoyable, the fun atmosphere, the company... And I hope you’re enjoying the food?”

"It might," Tommy laughs as he keeps moving, pulling the man with him. "You're going to enjoy this. I insist."

“It’s uh— the only option? That does make my decision easier, I suppose.” He responded with another small grin, yeah he was starting to at least get a little more confident again as they moved along.

Maybe skating would have been more fun before now if he’d had someone to teach him, but better late than never.

Kell raises a brow at Rhy and looks back at it again.

"You can go. I will make sure you stay safe."

Her clothing was as unfamiliar to Ned as most of the things here, but it did show off her figure to good advantage, unlike his own coat, which merely showed off broad shoulders and a defined torso. He liked it so much, though, he wasn't going to abandon it even if it did give him less of an advantage in their challenge.

"More interesting, hm?" Ned grinned. As if he wouldn't buy her a drink anyways. When he grinned, his teeth always bared, wolf-like, but rather than making him seem more threatening, it had the opposite effect and made his whole face lighter. "I accept. A name and one free question in addition are my terms."

Rather than separate blades that strapped to one's existing shoes, he was intrigued to find that these were all one piece. They laced up at least like regular shoes, as he found when they sat on one of the benches by the rink and piled into their skates. "Do I get a practice run? Since this will be my first time on this kind?" Still seated, Ned tested out the action of one blade across the fake ice. Strange, very strange.

Inesa's aim might be terrible, but her sense of glee was infectious. Ned sent a few mortal-style snowballs dancing after the shrieking children, some fast and rapid-fire, others larger and gathered more fully.

So caught up in the game, it took a few rounds to notice the glitter in the air. He blinked, and it was gone. But sure enough, Inesa was just making her snow projectiles out of thin air. Ned stared. And got pelted in the chest with a wicked curveball.

"Oh, you'll pay," Ned warned whichever one of the children had gotten him so good, and bent to gather the pile of cold, slushy snow at his feet that had accumulated under Inesa's watch. He made quite the cannonball, and whirled to launch it in the direction of his assailant...

Only to find that the children had changed positions and instead his giant snowball flew right past where they should have been and off into the sidelines, where - Ned blinked again - it caught Robb squarely in the jaw. He hadn't even known his son was nearby. He stood, agape, not even knowing what to say.

And that was when two small creatures tackled him and his legs gave way, and Ned Stark rolled in the snow under full assault from tiny Winter warriors, much as he might have once upon a time with two very young lads named Robb and Jon.

Make sure he stays safe. Rhy laughs and nods, yes, he can agree to that.

"Well then, brother, protect me from the scary heights."

"It's divine," Rhy assures him as he takes another bite. See, he likes it.

"Perhaps you shall join me for a ride?"

Better late than never is right.

"Come on, we're going to get you a full lap.
